Lisa Hunter, Founder
Lisa Hunter is a native of Philadelphia that has been cooking since the age of 11. She developed a passion for cooking in her late teens and began serving at various churches on the Hospitality Team as well as assisting her mother, “Mom Pearl” with making her famous potato salad. Lisa always had a passion for helping people and pursued a career in social work, earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in social work, from George Mason University and Howard University, respectively.
She is a licensed social worker in the District of Columbia and in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It was through the field of Social Work, along with her work in ministry at church that Lisa began to work with vulnerable populations that included: the homeless; our veterans; children and families; and those experiencing deep poverty. Lisa has coordinated meals for her church to feed the homeless while also serving as its Food Bank Coordinator.
She has also donated time and service in preparing food for a special Thanksgiving Day fellowship with veterans and their spouses. Lisa sought for a way to move from empathy to action to help the said populations in a more tangible way. After much prayer, Lisa decided to go back to school and pursue a degree in Advanced Culinary Arts, thus merging her passion for cooking with her compassion for helping people. She founded Jes Catering LLC in 2014.
